Treasure Life 6 Annual Golf Classic
The 6th Annual Treasure Life Golf Tournament was a hit with 116 players taking to the links at the Coloniale Golf Course in Beaumont on May 31st, 2013.
The sun was shining bright, the clouds were minimal, there was enough wind to keep the mosquitoes at bay and the positive energy was radiating everywhere you looked.
Many volunteers consisting of the Board Members, family, friends and golfers from across Western Canada came together to participate in an event that brought so many people together to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause. $30,000.00 was raised at this event which will go a long way to support our programs at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
Aside from a great game of golf everyone had the opportunity to bid on the many silent auction items that were donated, participate in door prizes and enjoy a delicious lunch provided by the Golf Club.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support Evan’s legacy! So many children benefit from the funds raised at this event and for that we are grateful.

The 6th annual Treasure Life Golf Tournament took place at the Coloniale Golf Club on May 31. More than $30,000 was raised for the Evan Ty Jenkins Pediatric Research Foundation.
“We’ve found that this entire community ... has embraced it tremendously,” said Charlene Jenkins.
Charlene Jenkins is the organizer, and co-founder of the foundation, which is named after her grandson.
He passed away at the age of seven from Complex Congenital Heart Disease.
“Yesterday would have been his 14th birthday,” she said, on the patio of the golf course, on the day of the tournament. “We started this foundation in his legacy.”
He inspired every aspect of foundation, even the name of the fundraiser.
“We tried to focus on what did Evan like when he was younger?” Jenkins said. “He liked treasure, and he loved pirates.”
The treasure theme brought about one of the foundations two main projects.
Kids at the Stollery Children’s Hospital are given beads for every procedure they go through.
“They tell their own stories based on what the beads,” Jenkins said. “So it’s like a bead diary.”
It’s an “inspirational project,” that Jenkins hopes helps them handle the experiences.
“They can tell the kids at school what happened to them without talking about the actual procedures,” Jenkins said. “The families will go through and actually read the beads like a book. So it’s really therapeutic.”
It started off as a project for kids with heart diseases, but it has grown to include all children at the hospital.
“The other thing kids like to do when they’re in the hospital, is they like to go home, fast,” said Jenkins.
So the foundation also funds equipment that helps speed up the procedures. Or even do them from home.
They donate the money to the University of Alberta Hospital Foundation.
“Specifically for them to purchase this so they can go home quicker,” Jenkins said.
The golf tournament is one of many fundraisers. They also regularly hold a Skate-a-Thon, receive help from schools, and hold auctions. They raised $78,000 with a Casino that they had in February.
